Wesley In Home Support Service

Wesley Aged Services can assist you with household tasks so that you can maintain your independent living.

If you're finding it difficult to organise your daily life, the friendly and approachable staff at Wesley In Home Support Service can help you remain independent in your own home.
If you have dementia or are a carer of someone who does, we can provide a trusted worker to help make life more secure and manageable. We can provide assistance in the following areas:

  • Planning daily activities
  • Planning and preparing meals
  • Referral to other services such as personal care or domestic assistance
  • Monitoring self medication, personal and home cleanliness
  • Monitoring general health and well being
  • Providing opportunities for socialising and support
  • Referral of a carer to appropriate support services

Wesley In Home Respite Service

Our friendly staff are committed to helping you retain your independence, and respect your privacy, dignity and freedom of choice. They are also committed to making the time of respite fulfilling for both you and the person you care for.

While you’re away, a typical respite visit might include:

  • recreational activities
  • gardening, walking, craft, simple exercise, listening to music, board games
  • assistance with daily living skills
  • meal or drink preparation
  • bed-making
  • clothes washing
  • sweeping and vacuuming
  • personal care activities
  • toileting, feeding or showering
  • occasionally, out-of-home services such as visits to the library, shops, lunch out, bus trips or picnics

Wesley Home Modification and Maintenance Services

Sometimes a few relatively simple modifications can make your home a much easier place in which to live.  Our friendly and approachable staff are happy to help you maintain a safe and comfortable home environment.

We use the most cost effective materials available, and all our work must contribute to your health and safety.

Here are some of the areas where we can provide practical help.

  • In the bathroom: full bathroom modifications, installing grab rails, shower curtain rods and hand-held showers, removing shower screens.
  • Around the house: installing grab rails, wedge ramps, lever taps and chair raisers, replacing washers, widening doorways for wheelchairs and walkers, replacing light bulbs, securing rugs and cords
  • Outside the house: installing handrails, safety lights and access ramps, small plumbing jobs.
  • Any other repairs or modifications that will help ensure your safety.

Wesley Seniors Day Centre

The Seniors Day Centre is designed to provide a place where frail older people and those suffering from dementia, can maintain their social interaction in a friendly atmosphere.

If you enjoy meeting people and having fun, the Wesley Seniors Day Centre may be for you.  Activities are conducted by trained, friendly and co-operative staff, ready to help you make the most of your visit.

Our program includes:

  • social activities
  • various therapies
  • outings and day trips
  • individual care
  • personal care as necessary
  • meals at minimal cost
  • help with eating if needed
  • transport if required 
  • communication with carers where appropriate

What does the service provide?

Wesley Seniors Day Centre provides activities for frail older people. These activities are designed to develop, maintain and support social interaction. They are conducted in a day centre setting, although we also offer group outings.

Whatever you choose, our trained staff are friendly and cooperative and ready to help you make the most of your visit. Their commitment to helping you maintain your independence includes respect for your privacy, dignity and freedom of choice

Who is eligible?

This centre is open to all frail older people, and some days will be especially suited to the needs of those with dementia. Wesley Seniors Day Centre is funded to provide services in the Wyong and Gosford Local Government Areas.

Any individual, agency or organisation may refer people to the service. A Co-ordinator will contact you to discuss eligibility.

Wesley Innovative Shopping Service

If you enjoy living at home and find the chore of shopping too much of a challenge, we may be able to provide the help you need.
Our friendly and cooperative staff will work with you to develop a grocery shopping routine to meet your needs.

Our commitment to helping you maintain your independence includes respect for your privacy, dignity and freedom of choice.

Services we provide include:

  • Helping to compile a shopping list
  • Doing a weekly or fortnightly shop
  • Unpack if required
  • Assisting with online shopping
  • Helping to plan meals

Wesley Domestic Assistance

If you prefer to live at home but are struggling to manage day-to-day tasks, we may be able to provide the help you need.

Our caring and supportive staff will work with you to deliver a cleaning routine around your needs. Their commitment to helping you maintain your independence includes respect for your privacy, dignity and freedom of choice.

Some of the specific areas we can provide practical help include:

  • Vacuuming carpets and mopping floors
  • Cleaning bathrooms
  • Cleaning the outsides of cupboards
  • Doing the laundry
  • Hanging out the washing
  • Changing bed linen
  • Paying bills
  • Preparing meals

Wesley One Point of Entry Program

Many different Home and Community Care Services are available within the Lake Macquarie area to assist frail older people or people with disabilities and their carers. Now it’s easy to find the right service for your needs - all it takes is one phone call to the Wesley One Point of Entry Program.

Simply call 1800 639 540 (toll free) to speak to one of our friendly Co-ordinators. They will help determine the service that most closely meets your needs and then refer you to an appropriate provider. Our aim is to assist you find the help you need as quickly as possible. We are committed to helping you maintain your independence, and to respecting your privacy, dignity and freedom of choice.

Home and Community Care Support Project

Our goal is to help frail older people and younger people with disabilities to live as independently as possible in the community. To do this, the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie Home and Community Care (HACC) Support Project is working with the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care and other community care providers with the aim of developing a holistic approach to all of the services provided.

Assistance with Care and Housing for the Aged

The Assistance with Care and Housing for the Aged Program (ACHA) Program is designed to assist the homeless or people in insecure housing to access more appropriate housing with care options.

Greenacre Supported Housing 

Rising to the challenge of homeless aged people in Sydney, Wesley Mission runs supported housing programs requiring no capital contributions, such as the new Greenacre Supported Accommodation Program.

Officially opened in April 2005, innovative Program offers 10 accommodation units provided by the NSW Department of Housing.

Commonwealth Carelink and Respite Centres

Wesley Mission welcomes you to the Inner West Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres, which provide a single point of access to community information and the Carer emergency respite and short term respite services.  Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre are located in all Home and Community Care (HACC) Regions in Australia.  Please read below to find out more about how we can help people stay at home longer.

Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres – Information Support Services will help you navigate the great range of services providing in-home, centre based and travel support.  A single phone call to freecall 1800 052 222 will link you to your local centre, and up to date information including costs, eligibility and which areas programs provide service to.
